Brother Carter –

I have followed your ministry for some years now, always being encouraged by your preaching as one of the few Ministers who, with boldness, have stood up against the increasing apostasy we see all around us.  You have warned us against angels of light, masquerading as ministers of the gospel that teach lies such as the false prosperity message or assurance of salvation while in sin.  You have alerted the sheep many times of the dangers of false religion.  Under the anointing of the Spirit, God has used you personally to comfort me and confirm for me things in my own life.  I count you as a brother in the Lord and a leader in the church.

I have recently learned that there have been some messages from the pulpit that include the Roman Catholic system as members of the Body of Christ.  While I do not deny that there are some fine people within the RCC and they do many good works, we know, and I do believe you know Carter, that the Catholic religion is not the Christianity of the scriptures.

There are many points where they are off, and I hope to cover them as follows:

  • The bible is clear – Jesus alone is the saviour, and all power was given to Him by the Father.  But, Rome holds that Mary is a co-redemtrix/co-mediatrix.
  • Jesus is the head of the Church and not the pope.
  • And while we are warned not to add to or take away from the scriptures, under penalty of loss of salvation, (Rev 22:18-19), the RCC has absolved itself of scriptural warning by taking away from the commandments that God gave to Moses.
  • The New Testament priesthood is comprised of all the redeemed saints, but Rome has appointed only those that she has
  • “ordained” to be priests.
  • This is equally true with the position of becoming a saint.  We know the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ are all saints, but the RCC usurps the authority of God by creating another way.
  • Further, the sacrifice of the “mass” is an abomination to God.  It supposes that every time a mass is performed, Jesus Christ is sacrificed again.  But again, scripture is clear that Christ was sacrificed once for the sins of many.
  • Transubstantiation.
  • Rome’s doctrines of demons includes forbidding to marry.
  • Rome promotes idolatry by the worship of statues and praying to the deceased.
  • Rome baptizes babies to remove the “stain of original sin,” while we know that sin is only imputed when there is knowledge of it. Babies have no such knowledge.
  • Rome pronounces all outside of their religion “anathema,” and teaches that all must be under the authority of the pope to be saved.

Not only are all the above charges true, but many have gone to their deaths defending biblical truths which show Rome’s errors. The history of Rome includes the horrific account of the Inquisition, and a series of wicked popes who claimed themselves to be God.  These are not false accusations.  They are historical accounts and can easily be verified.  See:  Foxes Book of Martyrs, Martyrs’ Mirrors and other historical accounts.

Carter, I do plead with you in the love of Christ, to reconsider your view.  We know that religious teachers have “the greater condemnation,” and you have many who follow you, not only at Times Square Church, but throughout the internet, where thousands hear your messages every week.  Any erroneous teaching from the pulpit can cause the brethren to stumble.  I know this is not your intention, because I do believe  you love God and his people and have laid down your life for the gospel, but Carter, you have made the claim that those in the Catholic system are the body of Christ, when scripture reveals otherwise.

It is simple to understand that if we view Catholics as true brethren, there is no need to evangelize them, and they will remain in the darkness of that false religion, and refuse to “come out of her.”

We live in troubled times; the the last days of apostasy, when it is possible for any one of us who fail to watch might be led away with a spirit of error.  None of us are exempt. Ministers of the gospel are especially targeted by the devil because they are leaders in churches and influence many.  One false sermon from a pulpit can easily cause deception to snare many.  There is strong temptation to let down our guard; to become lukewarm and ecumenical, and to not remain faithful and separate from the world, but we must resist such temptation – that we may remain acceptable of God.

I also pray that your staff members or FB friends will not remove my letter to you, for you are hard to reach, and protected from people like me, but this letter is intended to reach your hands Carter, and I do believe God wants you to read it.

In closing, I agree with the prayer of the late Leonard Ravenhill –

“I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy.  I pray you may know the glory of God and speak with endowment our age has not known with the “utterance” St. Paul speaks of in Ephesians 6:19, with the wisdom and fire of our Holy Father.  That you and I may be able to say “the prince of this world cometh and findeth nothing in me.”

See John 14:30.  No pride!  No itch for recognition, no place of pre-eminence desired.  Just the opportunity to reflect His mercy, peace and love.  The calling we have is awesome.  As He was, so are we in this world — now!  God keep us free from any smudges, stain or schemes of this world.

I pray that each service will be so charged with God that ineradicable truths will be engraved on young hearts as you speak.  “Fire begets fire” and vision (begets) vision, and zeal (begets) zeal.

The Lord whom you seek shall suddenly come to His temple.

1Ti 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3  Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Eph 5:11  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. 12  For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. 13  But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

Eze 13:19  And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?

Rev 22:19  And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

2Co 6:14  Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?   15  And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?  16  And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.  17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

I, Smashing Idols, have very slightly edited and reposted this letter from Hoshiana’s WordPress blog.  I am in agreement 100%
